Program Helps Faculty Members Develop Improved Security Assurance Programs
The IACBP's programs support the United States' cybersecurity needs and educate future information security leaders, says CMU's Information Networking Institute Director Dena Haritos Tsamitis.

Carnegie Mellon University's CyLab and Information Networking Institute (INI) are hosting several faculty members for the annual Information Assurance Capacity Building Program (IACBP). IACBP is designed to foster programs that support the U.S.'s cybersecurity needs and educate future information security leaders, says INI director Dena Haritos Tsamitis.
This year, the six selected faculty members will spend two weeks participating in a combination of lectures and lab exercises designed to help them develop cutting-edge curricula to educate future security leaders. "It's been so helpful because we are learning how to simulate situations on the Internet, which helps us convey complex information to our classes," says University of the District of Columbia professor Gail Finley.
Since 2002, 36 faculty members and 11 academic institutes have participated in IACBP, which is designed to guide faculty from minority-serving institutions in designing curricula. "As one of the nation's largest cybersecurity research and education centers, Carnegie Mellon CyLab can offer a wealth of highly relevant topics and research findings to the faculty who engage in the IACBP," says CyLab co-director Virgil Gligor.
