In his first State of Education Address Thursday (Sept 24), Wisconsin State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Evers touched on budget cuts and problems in the Milwaukee School District, but he kept his message forward-thinking. "Imagine all schools and libraries across the state with the Internet broadband connections to access virtual global learning opportunities," said Evers. "What an opportunity. With the proper prioritization, this can happen."

That's a vision Lori Hunt has had for years. Hunt is a math and computer science teacher at Middleton High School. "I'd like to have my programming students working online with students from India or Pakistan, so they can collaboratively put projects together," said Hunt.

She's trying to get her students to put away their textbooks and open up their browsers. "It's no longer their teacher and the Encyclopedia Britannica. [Students] have the whole world at their fingertips," Hunt said. Everything in her class is online, from lesson plans to a discussion board.
