Software engineering techniques for very large data systems will be the focus of research at Queen's University in Canada, which has received a $5 million investment from Research In Motion (RIM) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). Queen's professor Ahmed E. Hassan will lead a team that will search for new ways to enhance the efficiency and reliability of software integration across multiple systems.
The team will work with RIM, as well as Queen's industry partners and colleagues from other universities. "Finding ways to improve the reliability and quality of critical software applications is an important and challenging task, given the huge impact of the underlying data infrastructure systems on millions of people," Hassan says.
The funding also will establish a new Industrial Research Chair in Software Engineering of Ultra Large Scale Systems at Queen's, chaired by Hassan.
