NexGen Air Transport System to ltimately Succeed, Computer Scientist Predicts
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has begun implementing the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NexGen) across the United States. The new system calls for a wide-ranging transformation of the entire air transportation system.
The current air transportation system is under increasing pressure from gridlocks and delays, says University of Alabama professor David Brown, who is an expert on using database retrieval technology to help improve highway and FAA safety. The NexGen system will use dynamic satellite-based technologies, instead of the current ground-based technologies.
Brown predicts NexGen will succeed if it is implemented slowly and allowed to evolve concurrently as the old system is being phased out. "I am predicting ultimate success and a system that will provide a much safer travel environment."
