U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano delivered a keynote address which focused on cybersecurity at the RSA Conference in San Francisco on Wednesday (March 3). She closed her remarks by issuing a challenge to the security community to help raise public awareness of cybersecurity issues.

During the keynote, the DHS chief made clear that the U.S. needs to act with a sense of urgency when it comes to cybersecurity. "We [DHS] need to do more, and we need to do it faster by making the department a focal point of cybersecurity within the federal government" while, at the same time, protecting the privacy of U.S. citizens.

Recognizing that threats to U.S. cybersecurity are also threats to homeland security, Napolitano informed the attentive crowd that her department needs the best and brightest minds in the security community to help serve the interests of the U.S. To further this goal, Napolitano announced the National Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign Challenge and said the DHS will continue to actively recruit the most capable security professionals from the private sector.
