Java Supplants IT Security as Most Sought-After Tech Skill Set, Survey Finds
Java/J2EE has become the most difficult skill set and position to fill, according to a new Dice.com survey. Java development has surpassed information technology (IT) security, and virtualization, ranked second on the list a year ago, has fallen out of the top 10 rankings, which suggests that more IT professionals are now familiar with virtualization technologies.
Three Microsoft technologies made the list—.NET, SharePoint, and C#. Java/J2EE was followed by security, software developer, SAP, and database administrator. .NET, Oracle, SharePoint, C# and Active Federal Government Security Clearance rounded out the top 10. Software developers and C# were the new entries, while virtualization and project management dropped out.
Dice, which surveyed 600 human resources managers and recruiters, reports that as of July 1, 2010, there were 66,672 available tech jobs, including 39,389 full-time positions, up from 48,993 tech jobs and 28,713 full-time positions a year ago.
