Intel researchers have developed a way TV remote controls can identify users based on their viewing preferences and how they hold the remote, which could help advance customization of the TV-viewing experience. The system uses an algorithm to track how a remote is held and which buttons are pressed to identify the user, says Intel's Mariano Phielipp. The researchers say the remote could customize preferred TV channels, audio channels, or online games played for each user.
The technology is compatible with any TV that can run the algorithm, Phielipp says.
