Llnl Expertise Supports Establishment of Energy Efficiency Hub in Philadelphia

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is collaborating with Pennsylvania State University and several other public and private partners to launch the Greater Philadelphia Innovation Center for Energy Efficiency Buildings (GPIC). GPIC's goal is to establish Philadelphia's Navy Yard and the surrounding area as the national center for energy-efficient buildings research, education, policy, and commercialization. LLNC will work with GPIC researchers to develop integrated end-to-end code for simulating building fluid and thermal flows.
"This is a 'get it to work' solution," says LLNL's John Grosh.
LLNL and GPIC also plan to provide a new approach to modeling integrated cyber-physical control systems and to develop strategies for creating scalable reduced-order models that can be transitioned to commercial development. "This hub is a great opportunity for LLNL to demonstrate the value of high-performance computing and simulation for energy-technology applications," says LLNL's Tomas Diaz de la Rubia.
