It's too soon to say whether the metaverse will indeed become the next version of the Web, and even if it is, whether Facebook will be the dominant player. But it's still an important experiment worth paying attention to.
If the relentlessly ambitious Zuckerberg is devoting thousands of employees and billions of dollars to pursue the idea, the odds are high that the metaverse will be more than a passing, oddball whim from a billionaire tech CEO.
