Deep Learning Is a Bad Idea for Security

Zulfikar Ramzan is the chief scientist and CEO of Aura Labs.

Ramzan holds a controversial belief regarding artificial intelligence (AI) and security: "I think deep learning is a completely terrible idea for security.  Ramzan's statement flies in the face of conventional wisdom that neural networks and their ability to discover patterns in massive amounts of data will revolutionize the cybersecurity industry.

While he concedes that exceptions may exist and that deep-learning experts may be doing innovative work applying AI to security problems, deep learning still has some major issues that need to be addressed before he feels comfortable enough for AI to be used more widely in the security industry.
