When you consider the world from which open source software emerged—antagonistic if not specifically political—it is worth keeping in mind that there are some important tensions bubbling under the surface of the tech industry. Failure to address them could result in a more anodyne and less participatory future.
The hope should be that open source remains a space for creative, independent-minded people to learn and explore while also creating something that can benefit everyone. If our solutions to open source sustainability undermine that core ethos then, really, what is the point?
