Microsoft researchers Andy Wilson and Hrvoje Benko have developed LightSpace, a project that uses an array of projectors and depth-sensing cameras to sense human forms and enable users to move two-dimensional digital objects between different surfaces in a room.

LightSpace is the culmination of various projects aimed at facilitating interaction between the space and the projected content, Benko says. The system behaves similarly to a Microsoft Surface table. However, instead of simulating activity just on the surfaces, LightSpace works in between the interactive surfaces, Benko says.
The researchers envision using LightSpace technology in a way that makes it part of the productive environment in a conference room.
