What's It Like to Work In an Amazon Fulfillment Center?

Nicole C. worked at an Amazon fulfillment center in Illinois until this June, when she quit after feeling exasperated over her experience there. At the warehouse, she packed boxes, picked items from shelves for shipping, and scanned products and placed them on shelves to be picked later.

Thousands of Amazon fulfillment center workers across the world went on strike during Prime Day, demanding better working conditions.  Amazon has tried to improve public perception of the fulfillment centers, tasking some warehouse employees to defend the company on Twitter.

In an interview, Nicole discusses the floor conditions she experienced at Amazon, why the quota system there can be so brutal, and what happens to workers on Prime Day—one of the biggest online shopping days of the year.
