Mentorship, Sponsorship Are Crucial for Advancing STEM Inclusion

Charlotte Owens is a vice president at global pharmaceutical firm Takeda, where she heads the R&D Center for Health Equity and Patient Affairs.

While optimistic that we are moving in the right direction, Charlotte Owens is all too aware of the lack of black representation in STEM. "But we need to continue to work in tangible ways to make things better," she says in an interview. While people from underrepresented groups appreciate diversity in the field, this has not been a mainstream topic.
