Governments and Businesses Must Unite to Combat Ransomware Threat

We are extremely vulnerable right now. And that problem is going to take years, maybe decades to really fix.

Adam Flatley is director of threat intelligence for Redacted, a cybersecurity company.

Speaking from his own experience, Adam Flatley contends that the vast majority of high-impact ransomware operations have been conducted by large organized crime units.

"They are incredibly sophisticated, very organized," he says in an interview. "They have development organizations that are building their tools. They have customer service groups that are helping people learn how to pay the ransom by using cryptocurrency."

That is why all the components of private industry and government must come together to combat these threats in a global, organized, intel-driven campaign.
