Paolo Benanti, who teaches the ethics of artificial intelligence (AI) at Rome's Pontifical Gregorian University, has become a trusted adviser on AI to Pope Francis. Benanti helped draft the Rome Call, a commitment, signed in March 2020 by IBM and Microsoft, that human dignity will always be a priority as AI is rolled out worldwide.

In an interview, Benanti talks about an expanded version of the pact, the role of religions in the control of technology, whether an AI apocalypse is in the cards, and more.
