Jonathan Shariat is a senior interaction designer and accessibility program lead at Google, and co-author of the book Tragic Design.

In an interview, Shariat discusses harmful software design, talking about how poor design can kill in the medical industry, what to consider during the product development cycle, industry-specific checklists and testing requirements, creating guiding principles for a team, why medical software often has poor UX, designing for crisis situations, and why employing deceptive design patterns (also known as “dark patterns”) can be bad for products in the long term.
